October Sky

While the 6th graders were testing, we watched a movie called October Sky. The movie was about four boys that want to build a rocket. The movie shows how they overcame obstacles to follow a dream. One major obstacle was how to build the rocket. There were many different ways they tried to make them and the boys did not give up unntil they found the right combination of materials to make the rocket fly high. This connects to science because in order to make the rocket fly, they had to put together parts and use chemicals. This can connect to ccharacter ed because the boys were determined to follow their dream.

comment on cookie monster's blog

Recently, i read a blog on Sickle Cell Anemia. I really hope people can find a cure for this disease. People are so sick, they don't know what a normal life is. Just because people are living in poor places people are getting sick. This really makes me sad. From researching all these diseases, i realized how lucky i am to be healthy. If i had a friend with this disease, i would stay be their side through everything. I think people that have this disease are very brave, even though they have no choice. I feel very bad for their families, too. They go through so much and still stay strong.

Adrenoleukodystrophy

Adrenoleukodystrophy is a genetic disease that occurs in males and some females of all ages. The gene that causes this disease was founded in 1993. This disease occurs when the transporter protein, which carries enzymes that are used to break down very long-chained fatty acids, is missing. There are three major categories of this disease. Childhood cerebral form, which occurs in children ages 4 to 8, Adrenomyelopathy, which occurs in men in their late 20's, and Impaired adrenal gland function, which is when the adrenal gland does not produce enough steroid hormones. The symptoms you can have if you have the Childhood cerebral form are adrenal problems, changes in muscle tone; especially muscle spasms, crossed eyes, swallowing difficulty, and seizures. If you have Adrenomyelopathy, the symptoms could be adrenal problems, difficulty controlling urine, and problems with thinking speed and visual memory. Adrenal gland function has the worst symptoms. I f you have this, you can be put in a coma, decreased appetite, increased skin pigmentation, loss of weight, muscle weakness, and vomiting. Unfortunately, 1 in every 20,000 are diagnosed with one of these diseases. Most people, after being diagnosed, can live as long as 10 years more. This means that if a child is diagnosed at the age of 4, by the time that child is 10 or 12 the child will be very ill and die soon. All races can have this disease but since males have 2 X chromosomes and this disease is a X chromosome relaProxy-Connection: keep-alive

d disease, males have this disease. Some females can be carriers or have minor symptoms. There are currently no treatments that totally cure the disease, but some can help. Some that can help are steroids, bone marrow transplant, and eating a diet that is low on long-chained fatty acids and taking special oils. I feel really bad for the people that have it because they suffer so much. They don't deserve to have it. Just because it was passed down to them from their parents, they have to suffer too. I hope they find a cure to this disease soon, so people can have a chance to live.

DNA Conclusion

In science, we did a DNA extraction.  The extraction that i did was animal which is human.  We took blue sports drink and swished it around in the extractors mouth.  After that, we spit it back into the cup and then added alcohol.  Then, we let it sit for 15-20 minutes.  This experiment worked for me because i could see the DNA in my test tube.  The test tube looked like white substances floating around in the test tube.  Overall, this experiment was fun, but educational.  This was definitely a good experiment.

Class Response

In class, we have been making websites for our roller coasters. The website making process was very easy. First, we went on www.webs.com to create the website. Once you are there you hit the sign up button and fill out the following forms. Some people got bad request. This is because there were too many actions coming from the same IP address. All we had to do i refresh the page.  Next, we took the tour of the website, only if you wanted to though.  The final step was  to do anything else you wanted to.  This included adding music, content, and background images.  This relates to science, because the website is learning how to use technology.

Three British Troops Killed?

On Wednesday, three British troops were killed in Afghanistan. According to, http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/asiapcf/02/25/afghanistan.deaths/index.html, the troops were only three of ten troops that have been killed in bombings. There have been many troops killed. Also, many bombing were reported as the reason of the deaths. Even a civilian was killed by a remote control motorbike. I ,personally, think this is outrageous. There is NO reason why these killings should have taken place. This should stop before they kill all the troops that are placed there. The troops can not be pulled out because if they do, this would probably still be going on.
